Old Amateur Movie Posters

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I found this great blog post about old movie posters from Ghana on Ephemera Assemblyman. As a side note, he said he got the inspiration for his post from one of my favorite blogs out there, A Journey Around My Skull, another blog that is definitely worth checking out if you are into art.

“In the 1980s video cassette technology made it possible for ‘mobile cinema’ operators in Ghana to travel from town to town and village to village creating temporary cinemas. The touring film group would create a theatre by hooking up a TV and VCR onto a portable generator and playing the films for the people to see.”

They would make these posters to promote the movies. A funny side note, he said they often didn’t even see the movie before they were asked to draw these, which I find pretty hilarious. I thought I’d share some of the pictures.

Check out the rest of the pictures as well. Just a warning, some of them are pretty graphic.

Wolf Cub Pastel Drawing

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

I really enjoy drawing. I can’t say I’m great at it, but it is something I’ve enjoyed since I was a little kid. More likely than not it’s just not something I do often enough to get really good. Regardless of that, I still have fun with it, and that is good enough for me! In the last few weeks I’ve gotten into pastel’s. Not long ago I shared my first pastel drawing, this is my second. It is a wolf cub (or it is supposed to be if you can’t tell *grin*).

I didn’t really add much shading I guess. I could have added shadows around the tops of his legs and behind his ears and such. Oh well, I’ll work on that more for my next drawing.

Pastel Drawings

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

When I decided to post pictures on here I had no idea that it would involve multiple hours of modifications to my blog! Sheesh, what an event that was. In the end I got it all worked out, and though it wasn’t necessary I found out, I got the latest version in the process.

I have only been drawing for a few months so I’m certainly no expert, but I do enjoy it a lot. Posting the drawings I do makes it fun to watch how my styles change. If anyone wants to take a look at other drawings check out my Flickr Account. You can click on the images and view them individually at a larger resolution.
