A Night at the Theater

I haven’t been to a musical for many, many years. The last one I actually went to see was a Broadway trip to New York at 13. I got to see 3 or 4 then. It was a lot of fun. One of those school trips that you feel very fortunate to get to go on.
The show was great! The whole cast did a fantastic job singing and dancing. Vince Fontaine stole the show I think. He came out before it started and did a few songs while talking to the audience. The whole place was interacting with him. He spent time poking fun of Waxahachi, which was hilarious.
The main couple made their roles look easy. Samantha and I decided that Danny was far less sleazy than Travolta was in the movie. For better or worse I suppose. I kinda liked the sleazy performance, but seeing him as endearing was good in its own ways. I wasn’t disappointed. Sandy was even better. Her transformation was very natural.
It goes to show how much avoid television to admit that I didn’t know who Taylor Hicks was before last night. Honestly I don’t think he did a very good job at the role. His voice just sounded more modern than the rest of the cast. I guess being an angel you can do that. We were completely stunned that a couple in the row in front of us actually got up and walked out after he sang Beauty School Dropout. Seems like a big cost (they were very good seats) to go see one song. Too bad for them, he did a solo number after the show from his newest album. I bet they will be pissed to find out. That makes me a little happy. I thought it was very rude.
